Your skin is and if it is not prepped right then it’s all for nothing, imagine waking up and your skin is dry and flakey and even worse you are all broken out from the stress of getting the seating chart to the wedding planner and making sure you don’t sit your crazy Aunt Millie next to your new Mother-in-law because she will share terrible stories of your childhood and her 30 cats she lives with in her one bedroom apartment.

When to Start Your Bridal Skincare Routine

When starting the process of looking for an esthetician I tell everyone to get referrals from friends and other brides that just got married, word of mouth is usually the and ask to see photos, they will speak volumes.

The sooner you start the better off you will be especially if you have no real home routing you follow, this gives your skin time to get adjusted to new products.

Now if you are dealing with a corrective issue like acne or hyperpigmentation you really want to have extra time because realistically it’s going to get worse before it gets better. I know this may sound a little intimidating but with the support of a licensed esthetician you will be able to move mountains and feel your best on your big day.

The Best Pre-Wedding Facials for Charlotte Brides

Once you have found someone you feel comfortable with, tell them about your wedding day vision. This will help them to create the perfect skincare schedule for you.

Starting 10 months from your wedding date will give you ample time to start off gentle and build up, remember if you haven’t had a skincare routine of any kind you can’t just go in gangbusters and start using things like strong acids and or Retin A, Tretinoin you will end up causing damage to the outermost barrier of your skin and set yourself back in the process.

6 months out from the big day now that your skin is prepped and ready to take on more advanced therapies, I recommend doing a combo visit like dermaplaning and a Glo2 Oxygen facial. This will give a great deal of exfoliation, and the Glo2 Oxygen facial is different because it actually signals your body to bring a surge of oxygen to the surface. It creates the ideal condition to nourish and transform the skin inside and out. This treatment can also be done on the back, arms, legs and hands. You can also combo with an acid peel. These services are very complimentary.

3 months from you saying “I do” seems like a long time but it is really not only 3 more visits to get you ready. At this time I recommend Microneedling. This is a minimally invasive procedure for your skin, the controlled wound that is created by the tinny needles helps to stimulate your skin’s healing process, so it will start to produce more collagen and elastin. These proteins will firm and smooth the skin. Now you will have some down time after this service for about 48 hours of not wearing makeup and using very specific after care, after that it’s business as usual.

Just days away till you become Mrs.! 10 to 7 days out keep it gentle, no deep chemical peel or crazy laser treatments, its just not going to heal fast enough. I would recommend dermaplaning and Glo2 Facial, this will help to remove all of the velis hair on the face and the oxygen will help prep your skin for the beautiful makeup application the day of your wedding.

There's a myth floating around that you should shower right before your appointment. Wrong move! Showering right before doesn't allow your pores to fully close, affecting the quality of your spray tan. Hold off on the shower, shave, and exfoliation in that crucial 24-48 hour window.

Post-session Details: Lock in that Glow

Holly's spray tans are like a beauty secret – they're guaranteed to keep you glowing for a solid 7-10 days. But, of course, there are some steps you can take to ensure your tan stays put.

Moisturize, Moisturize, Moisturize:

Use a sulfate-free moisturizer to keep your skin hydrated. Dry, flaky skin is the enemy of a long-lasting spray tan.

Avoid Shaving and Exfoliating:

Once you're beautifully bronzed, keep the razor away. Shaving and exfoliating can strip away your tan, so let those dead skin cells do their thing naturally.

Sulfate-Free Body Wash:

Your regular body wash may not be your best friend right now. Switch to a sulfate-free option to keep that tan looking fabulous.

Say No to Soaking:

Steer clear of long baths, pools, or hot tubs. Less time in water means more time for your tan to shine.

Bridal Trials, a peek into what you’ll really look like on your Wedding Day. An exciting time to work up a game plan with your stylist/MUA and make your vision come to life.

One of the biggest questions prior is, "What Do I Need To Do To Prep For My Bridal Hair Or Makeup Trial?"

Have no fear, we’re here to bring you some tips and tricks! By the end of this post, you’ll be more ready than ever, and you’ll have your stylist/MUA impressed with how prepared you are for your session!

When Should I Book My Hair and Makeup Trial Run?

To ensure you secure your spot, it's best to book your hair and makeup trial run as early as possible. As a bridal hair and makeup artist who has been in the industry for almost a decade here at Alter Image we recommend booking at least 2-3 months in advance, especially during peak wedding season.

How Do I Prepare for My Hair Trial?

First things first, you're going to want to make sure your stylist has a fresh and clean canvas. Whether you wash your hair the night before or the day of, make sure that it’s 100% dry before your stylist arrives.

• This allows you to jump right into your trial run session without taking away from your appointment time!

We love to provide our Alter-Image Brides with a short but detailed questionnaire to make sure we have all of your concerns mapped out.

Whether you're unsure if you'll need hair extensions for the wedding day or if your hair doesn't hold a curl, our artist can come fully equipped with everything they need to address your personal needs.

• Once we have your questionnaire, we'll send you details on what time to expect your artist to arrive,

• as we are an on-location bridal hair and makeup company. We'll also provide a few tips on how to prep prior to your artist arriving at your location. (what we need when setting up on location)

During your trial run, have a chat with your stylist to see what's best for your hair texture and current hair length. You can discuss whether you'd need any filler hair or if extensions are needed.

Tips for Finding Hair Extensions or Clip-Ins for Your Big Day

When choosing hair extensions, make sure to have them color-matched prior by your personal stylist or through email communication leading up to your trial. This ensures a seamless blend with your natural hair.

Choose human hair extensions, as synthetic hair is less costly but doesn't take a curl well (she will melt lol) if too much heat is applied, which is not ideal for your special day.

Do I Need to Book a Bridal Hair or Makeup Trial?

Before we get properly prepped, let's talk about the point of a Bridal Trial anyway!

Bridal Trials are a great way to test out what works and what doesn't. Can you imagine the stress that you would feel not knowing how your hair and makeup are going to look before you walk down the aisle?

Booking a trial allows your stylist to work with you to create the perfect makeup look, along with the right hairstyle for your special day.

Bridal Trials are also great to book prior to events like a date night, engagement session, or the most common bridal portraits. This way, you can create that special look and go on looking like a queen for the rest of the day or evening.

How Do I Prepare for My Makeup Trial?

Skin, Skin, Skin!

When it comes to prepping your skin, again, less is best. You'll want to keep the product use to a minimum! If you do apply any product to your skin, try to stick to a light moisturizer and a little SPF.

This way, your skin is nice and moisturized but also ready to assist in a smooth makeup application.

Hydration Is a Must!

Another thing that's great to do for both your trial and your wedding day is to keep yourself hydrated by drinking plenty of water.

This helps prevent dryness on your face and also helps to prevent/ease any puffiness that may come from the day/night prior.

If you have a couple of designer bags under those eyes, throw a couple of spoons in the freezer the night prior, and place them under your eyes for a few minutes.

Pro tip: If you're short on time, wet a paper towel and wrap it around the spoons before placing them in the freezer for a few minutes!

Building the Connection

Once your date has been confirmed within our system and a proposal has been sent through our client communication platform, we then invite you to connect via email, video, or phone communication based on your personal preference to chat about your vision for your big day!
