What’s the difference between airbrush makeup and traditional makeup?
⠀⠀⠀⠀This has to be our number question that we get asked aside from
" Are you available for my date?"
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Personally, I’m a huge fan of both but here is the best way i like to explain the difference between airbrush and traditional makeup.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
In all honestly its just the technique.
What is Airbrush makeup?
When you’re getting something done, it’s a good idea to know a little bit about it— especially when you’re going to be paying for it!
Airbrushing operates by using a power compressor (it’s a lot less scary than it sounds!) which creates an even airflow, controllable by your makeup artist, allowing for a gentle application.
There are many different brands and even different types of machines! There are some that have almost a pen-like applicator that connects to its compressor via a hose, and some that are more compact and are more handheld.
It’s definitely something that brides and clients alike find relaxing when sitting in the makeup chair
Should I do airbrush or traditional makeup on the wedding day?
Traditional Makeup as well as airbrush makeup has amazing coverage and staying power that can last up to 16+ hours. ⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
When it comes down to it skin prep is a must and can make or break the makeup...literally!
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Using improper products while using airbrush will cause your foundation to crack and separate throughout the day. This goes for both Airbrush and traditional. Some think that the words "airbrush" means "filtered"
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
As professionals, we can only make your make look as good as the skin you have prepared for use with your daily skincare routine. If you are someone that suffers from dry skin we would not recommend airbrush as the product does not work well with dry patches.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
How to prep your skin for airbrush makeup?
Skin, skin, skin!
When it comes to prepping your skin, again, less is best. You’ll want to keep the product use to a minimum! If you do apply any product to your skin, try to stick to a light moisturizer and a little SPF. This way your skin is nice and moisturized but also ready to assist in a smooth makeup application.
Another thing that’s great to do for both your trial AND your wedding day, is to keep yourself hydrated by drinking plenty of water.
This helps prevent dryness on your face, and also helps to prevent/ease any puffiness that may come from the day/night prior.
Have a couple designer bags under those eyes?
(Girl, same!)
Throw a couple of spoons in the freezer the night prior, and place them under your eyes for a few minutes. Pro tip: If you’re short on time, wet a paper towel and wrap it around the spoons before placing them in the freezer for a few minutes!

Airbrush Makeup Lasts Longer
There are a lot of questions one may have when it comes to airbrush makeup, and one of those is very likely, “How long does airbrush makeup last?” The amazing thing about airbrush makeup is its resilience. Airbrush makeup can last you at least twelve hours and, with proper application and the right brand, can last even longer! It’s perfect for any wedding, event, or occasion and is comforting for the wearer as you know it’s long-lasting. Even through a day of happy tears, your airbrush makeup will still be holding up.
Airbrush Makeup Takes Less Time to Have Done
On your wedding day, the last thing you want is to waste precious time— and you most certainly don’t want to waste time while getting ready! We all love having our hair and makeup done by somebody else, and if you’ve got an amazing Glam Squad, chances are you’ve been blessed with a timeline so you can know when it’s your time to experience the magic. When done properly, airbrush makeup actually takes less time to apply than traditional! You can even still get all the bells and whistles like highlight, contour, blush, etc. An amazing makeup look that keeps you in the chair for less time, giving you more time to enjoy your day and make more memories!
Airbrush Makeup Holds Up Through the Weather
So we’re loving the versatility that airbrush makeup has to offer, and things just keep getting better! When you’re researching to find your dream Glam Squad you’re probably wondering if your makeup will be able to withstand any environmental factors. As we all know life happens— sometimes dates have to be moved around, and sometimes it might just be slightly more humid than expected. Most airbrush makeups are water-resistant, given that they have a silicone-based formula. (Note: if you know that your skin does not react well to silicone products, it’s a good idea to check with your makeup artist before having your service started to avoid any reactions.) It’s good to know that your makeup is going to stand strong throughout the day!
Airbrush Makeup Looks More Natural
You want your makeup to look good for pictures, but it should still be wearable in person too. One of the best things about airbrush makeup is that thanks to its method of application, it looks much more natural. This is great because, with airbrush makeup, a little goes a long way. So as you layer you don’t have to worry about your makeup having a cake-y finish. You’ll still look amazing in photos, and you won’t fret about feeling as if you have on too much makeup. Win-win!
Should You Try Airbrush Makeup?
All in all, the choice is up to you when it comes to choosing between airbrush and traditional makeup. Like always, it’s important to consider your skin type, as well as the look that you’re ultimately going for. There are amazing benefits to both, but it’s nice to have these perks and the reassurance that airbrush makeup is a great long-lasting option.
