3 Things Your Wedding Hair Stylist and Makeup Artist Should Tell You
We all love to look good and to feel good too! It’s crucial when you’re going into a hair and/or makeup service to have an idea of how to have your hair correctly prep your hair and skin for your stylist and makeup artist. Properly having your hair and skin prepped not only helps out your Glam Squad members, but it also yields AMAZING results. Keep reading to know what your stylist and makeup artist should be informing you of, and keep these tips in mind to ask questions if needed!
How To Prep Your Skin
When it comes to getting a makeup service done, you want to make sure that you provide your MUA with a beautiful, clean canvas— you’ve already got the beauty, so it’s on to a good clean! Of course, you want to use a good cleanser, something that gives you a clean base and leaves your skin feeling soft and supple, as opposed to something that makes your skin feel tight and “squeaky clean.” If you can gently exfoliate prior? Even better! Your makeup artist will thank you, and you’ll be absolutely in love with the results of your makeup application. Don’t forget to hydrate and apply a little SPF!
How To Prep Your Hair
As far as hair is concerned, it’s a must to have your hair 100% dry before your stylist(s) arrive(s). This helps to cut down on time, and also helps prevent any tangling. Preferably, your hair should be freshly washed with little to no product in it, but it’s okay to have second-day hair. If your hair has trouble holding a curl when washing your hair, skip out on the conditioner as this can weigh it down. Use little to no product when blow-drying, and it’s best not to flat iron your hair! If you’re a curly girl looking to wear your hair straight, prep by semi blow-drying your hair straight, unless you’re getting a blowout. Are you worried about frizz? Throw in a small amount of leave-in cream before your stylists’ arrival to allow the product to dry thoroughly.
If You Need Extensions
Lastly, when it comes to getting prepped for a hair service, especially as big as your wedding, you’ll want to chat with your hairstylist about your desired volume and length. The last thing that you want is to fall in love with and buy a dress based off of a hairstyle (especially without doing a Bridal Trial!) just to find out that it’s unachievable because you needed extensions for volume, length, or both! Or, even worse— buying hair extensions and not having them properly color matched in time. When you chat with your stylist ahead of time, you can prevent all of these issues and trust that your stylist is going to ensure you’ll look and feel your best. It’s best to err on the side of caution, so get in touch with your stylist and book that Bridal Trial— STAT!
It’s always a little more reaffirming when you know what to expect before going into a service, especially one that you’re paying for! It can be nerve-wracking if you’re already unsure of how to prepare, but it can especially be anxiety-inducing when you don’t know what you’re asking about. Now you can go into your appointment confidently and know that you’ll be overjoyed with your results!

Bridal Hair Accessories and How They Can Transform Your Style
Most likely, you’ll have some other type(s) of accessories in addition to what you’d like in your hair, so generally speaking, it’s a good rule of thumb to keep things on the simpler side. Now, this isn’t to say that you can’t go for those GORGEOUS accessories that boast different beautiful jewels, but if that’s what you have in mind, you may want to think about the other aspects included. It’s also a good idea to take your veil into consideration. If you’re going to be wearing a veil, you’ll want to think about how having your chosen accessory with your veil may affect placement. All in all, it’s a great conversation to have with your stylist, and even better to bring along for your Bridal Trial to figure things out ahead of time!
Why Bridal Accessories?
Your Big Day is approaching, and more than anything you’re excited to finally see your look come together. You’ve planned out everything from your dress, to your hair and makeup look, to the shoes. You’re looking things over, and start to feel like you need something to give you that little extra “oomph”, but it needs to be something to complement any existing accessory choices. Enter bridal hair accessories! When it comes to your bridal look, you want to have a look that’s timeless but true to your style and character. Keep reading for some tips on how to transform your look with these beautiful accessories, quick links to shop, and more!
Keep It Simple
Keep Your Hairstyle(s) In Mind
In addition to your other accessories as well as your veil, it’s important to keep your desired hairstyle in mind when choosing bridal hair accessories. Though these accessories come in multitudes of different shapes and sizes, you’ll want to make sure that your style and accessory complement each other. Imagine how disheartening it would be to purchase that perfect hair accessory you’ve been eyeballing for months on end, just to find out on your wedding day that it’s not the right size or enough to emphasize your style! If you’re going to be doing a half up half down style, think about where you’d like the placement to be, especially if you’ll be wearing a veil; same goes for updos and downstyles— if you’ll be wearing your hair down, you may want to consider pinning back one side slightly to show the detail of your accessory.
Choose A Bridal Accessory True to Your Style
Chances are that when you’re planning your wedding you start thinking a little bit less about yourself and more so about your guests, so it’s important to make sure you make the most of those little things that are special to you! It is your day after all, and if you’re catering things as far as theme, etc. towards your guests, this is the perfect way to add your personal flair and style to your look. There are some jawdroppingly amazing bridal accessories out there, and truly something for everyone. Whether you’re more boho and want some light sparkle with more greenery, want crystals, or strictly something on the simpler side, there’s something for you! You’ll be glad you got the accessory that’s been calling out to you.
Take Your Other Accessories Into Consideration
As aforementioned, you want to keep into consideration any other accessories you will have on your wedding day. If you wouldn’t feel comfortable wearing too many accessories to dinner or night out, you won’t be comfortable walking down the aisle let alone during photos/the reception! When thinking about things like possible accessory placement, color(s), styles, you want to make sure everything complements you. Think about the color of your gown, and if you’re not a fan of mixing metals/styles this is the time for you to curtail those things!
Types of Bridal Hair Accessories
There are so many different types of shoppers out there, but one thing that’s for sure is that it’s usually nice to have at least a couple of options to choose from. Luckily, when it comes to bridal hair accessories, you’ve got almost a neverending list of shops and styles to choose from. As previously mentioned, we’ll have some of our favorites linked below, but it’s nice to know what your choices are. Upon doing some more research you’ll find many different types, but typically for bridal hair accessories like we have pictured, you may want to decide between bling and something more floral! The beautiful thing about these accessories is that even if you opt for something with a little more sparkle, you can still ask your florist for some fresh flowers to enhance your look even more! Ultimately, it depends on the look you’re going for, but if you want something floral that will last, you can opt for something not live.
So, Why Bridal Hair Accessories?
When it comes to your bridal look, you want to have a look that’s timeless but true to your style and character. You want something that’s beautiful, adds to (not takes away from) what your existing style and accessories have going on, and ultimately maybe even something you can wear for future special occasions or add to your wedding shadow box. Bridal hair accessories are amazing for a plethora of reasons, but it’s always great when you can invest in something that will serve you multiple purposes. Not only does your hairstyle look even more amazing in photos and in person with your accessory/accessories, but you’ve now also got a beautiful piece to make memories for a lifetime. 1. It’s A 10 Miracle Leave-In Product
The proof is in the label, this product is a miracle!! It’s A 10 has amazing key ingredients that are key to your hair’s nourishment, like sunflower seed and green tea extracts, silk amino acids, Vitamin C and more! This product repairs damaged dry hair, adds shine, and smooths and controls frizz. It also seals as well as protects your hair color, is a detangler, prevents split ends and hair breakage, creates silkiness, enhances natural body, AND is a flat iron & thermal protector. This is also a stellar product to try out as it’s pretty affordable, so you won’t be breaking the bank before trying a more luxurious treatment such as our next absolute favorite.
Did we mention it’s great for all hair types?!

2. Olaplex No. 3 Hair Perfector
It’s the product that we all know and love!! Most hairstylists as well as us LOVE this product and often recommend it to clients to integrate it into their hair routines. Olaplex is also great for all hair types, but should definitely be your best friend if your hair is color/chemically treated! The No. 3 Hair Perfector is super concentrated and works to strengthen your hair from the inside out to help prevent breakage.
Keep in mind that this product is a treatment, not a daily conditioner, so try to only use this on a weekly basis depending on your hair’s needs!
As we mentioned before, this product is definitely a bit more of a luxury treatment and comes at a higher price point than our previously mentioned product. However, if it’s a treatment that you find does absolute wonders for your hair (as it should!), you can opt for the larger size bottle to keep on hand for those days when you really want to relax and treat yourself (and hair)!
